Man hospitalized after being hit by police car

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – A man is hospitalized with major injuries after getting hit by a San Diego police car in Point Loma Thursday night.

The incident happened just before 9:30 p.m. along Nimitz Boulevard near Famosa Boulevard, which was closed for several hours during the investigation.

Police say the 20-year-old was intoxicated and walking in the bike lane, when he stepped into the path of a patrol car.

The man was unconscious when he was transported to UCSD Medical Center with head injuries and a broken leg.

The officer was not hurt.
