VISTA (CNS) - Authorities asked the public Thursday for help in determining who stole a World War II veteran's military service medals during a recent North County residential burglary.
The home-invasion theft in the 1000 block of Prospect Place in Vista occurred sometime between Nov. 27 and last Saturday, according to sheriff's officials.
The medals have negligible monetary worth but carry considerable sentimental value for the victim, who was wounded during the war and had to spend nearly a year under hospital care to recover, Detective Lisa Jenkins said.
San Diego County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to the nonprofit agency at (888) 580-8477 or contact them online at sdcrimestoppers.com. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
