Last minute shoppers cash in on extended store hours

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Time is running out to get those Christmas gifts. Which means shopping centers throughout San Diego were packed Sunday.

Many stores have extended hours. Others, will remain open through Monday.

If you have not finished Christmas shopping yet, you're not alone.

According to the National Retail Federation, sales will increase by about 4.1 percent this year to more than $586 billion.

But some experts say consumers are nervous to spend because of the so-called fiscal-cliff.

Which is why many retailers are going above and beyond to make sure they end the year on a high note.

Several of the big retail stores are open until 10 or 11 p.m. Sunday. Toys "R" Us will stay open through 10 p.m. Monday. As for Macy's stores, most will close at midnight and reopen at 7 a.m.
