Holiday shoppers looking for last-minute savings

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It's coming down to the wire for anyone who hasn't finished their holiday shopping. Stores are packed as people try to check those last few things off their lists.

For retailers, holiday sales are crucial. For consumers, many are out hunting for last-minute deals.

Analysts say a slowdown in spending the last few days could mean deep discounts Monday.

Market Research reports say consumer traffic over the weekend was in line with the same time a year ago, but shoppers seemed to be holding onto their wallets a little tighter.

The looming fiscal cliff is also forcing consumers to hesitate on their shopping not knowing if their taxes will be going up next year.

But shoppers can also expect big discounts as the days wind down to Christmas. Some experts say to expect deals up to 70 percent off and "buy one get one free" as retailers try to salvage a weaker than expected shopping season.
