Elderly woman struck by vehicle and killed in Otay Mesa

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Monday released the name of an 88-year-old woman who was fatally struck by a pizza delivery driver while attempting to cross the street against a red light in Otay Mesa.

Ejanda Salome of San Diego was hit while in the 900 block of Picador Boulevard, near Caminito Quixote, just before 7 p.m. Sunday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

The driver, a 21-year-old woman in a Chevy Cavalier, was not hurt, SDPD Officer David Stafford said in a statement.

Salome died at the scene. She was a widow, who lived with her son and his wife in San Diego, the Medical Examiner's Office said.

An investigation was ongoing into whether the motorist should face any charges.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 21-year-old motorist fatally struck a 70-year-old woman as she attempted to cross the street against a red light in Otay Mesa, police said Monday.

The fatality at Picador Boulevard and Caminito Quixote occurred just before 7 p.m. Sunday, according to San Diego police Officer David Stafford.

The motorist, who was driving a Chevy Cavalier, was not hurt, Stafford said in a statement.

The pedestrian died at the scene.

An investigation was ongoing into whether the motorist should face any charges.
