SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It can be a lonely time of year for senior citizens who live by themselves, but the San Diego County Sheriff's Department is making sure they are not forgotten.
Members of the Department's Senior Volunteer Patrol are spending the day delivering holiday baskets to people who are enrolled in the Sheriff's "You Are Not Alone" program. It provides daily telephone checks and weekly visits for retirement-aged and disabled people who live alone.
Volunteers say they are glad to give back to their community.
The "You Are Not Alone" program is a free service for seniors and disabled people who live by themselves within the jurisdiction of the San Diego Sheriff's Department.
