2013 San Diego Auto Show kicks off Thursday

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego International Auto Show opened Thursday, showcasing all things automotive via larger displays that reflect the slowly improving economy.

The four-day event at the San Diego Convention Center features more than 400 model-year 2013 vehicles from three dozen manufacturers, including high-end sports and luxury cars.

Some exhibits premiered recently in Los Angeles, and are on display in San Diego for just the second time, Auto Show Chairman John Stall said.

The event is described as the largest Southern California auto show under one roof.

"Our first goal is to offer the widest array of vehicles for a quality consumer experience," said Kevin Leap, show director. "We also want to ensure that the show is a place that San Diegans can spend an enjoyable day with the family in a non-selling, no-pressure environment. We think visitors will be pleased with the variety of exhibits and entertainment options."

Auto show hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Stall suggested arriving as early as possible to avoid crowds.

Admission is $12 for those 13 and older, $9 for military and seniors over the age of 62, $8 for children ages 7 to 12, and free for children age 6 and under. Children 12 and under will be admitted free on Sunday, which is Mazda Family Day, when accompanied by a paid adult.
