SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman and her dog were hospitalized following a fire at an Ocean Beach home that killed 15 pet birds and caused about $130,000 in damage, according to fire officials.
The fire was reported about 3:25 a.m. Wednesday at the house in the 2300 block of Seaside Street, a San Diego Fire- Rescue Department dispatcher said. Fire crews had the blaze knocked down in about 12 minutes, the dispatcher said.
The woman was taken to a hospital and treated for smoke inhalation and a large dog was taken to a veterinarian, according to the dispatcher.
Firefighters used an oxygen mask to treat the dog before it was taken to an emergency animal hospital.
The fire caused about $80,000 in damage to the property and $50,000 in damage to its contents, the dispatcher said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation, she said.
