Dozens arrested on local roads for suspected DUI

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The number of DUI arrests and fatalities on San Diego County roads this New Year's holiday weekend are nearly equal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that 23 drivers have been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving since Friday night.

There were 24 arrests during the same time last year.

One person has been killed on our local freeways both this year and last year.

Statewide, there have been 334 DUI arrests and four fatalities.

    Testimony is set to resume Wednesday in a preliminary hearing for a former San Diego police officer accused of groping and illegally detaining women while on patrol last year.

     

    A former San Diego police officer accused of groping and illegally detaining four women while on duty has been ordered to stand trial on five counts, including felony false imprisonment and misdemeanor sexual battery. Christopher Hays, 30, faces three years and eight months in prison if convicted.
