Police search for suspects in fatal Logan Heights shooting

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police Friday investigated a shooting that left a man dead in the Logan Heights section of San Diego.

Officers responded around 8:15 p.m. Thursday to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of 33rd Street and found the victim, who had sustained at least one gunshot wound, down in the front yard of a residence on the east side of the street, said Lt. Jorge Duran of the San Diego Police Department's Homicide Unit.

Paramedics were unable to save the man, whose age was not disclosed, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Duran said.

"The preliminary investigation has revealed the victim was standing on the sidewalk talking to the occupants of a dark colored compact vehicle when the shooting occurred," Duran said. "After being shot, the victim fell to the ground and crawled a short distance where he collapsed in front of a nearby residence."

No description was made available of the suspect vehicle, which was last seen heading north on 33rd Street, he said.

The victim's name was withheld pending notification of his family.

Anyone with information about the slaying was urged to contact homicide detectives at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
