SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Friends and family gathered to say their goodbyes as Jayme Midlam was laid to rest during a private funeral Saturday.
Support is also pouring in from the local VW Club, as well as from Midlam's former co-workers at Smashburger.
Midlam was killed last weekend when a woman driving the wrong way on the SR-52 slammed head-on into his Volkswagen Beetle.
Jayme's family held a private funeral Saturday in Clairemont honoring the 25-year-old. Among those who attended were over 50 Volkswagen owners, employees from Smashburger and UPS, both places where Jayme had worked.
In an amazing show of support, with their headlights on along the memorial ride, drivers remembered Jayme, who was killed on December 29th by a drunk driver.
Prosecutors say April Thompson's blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit when she slammed into Jayme.
Eric Sjoberg says he met Jayme recently at VW part store. The two had planned on working on Jayme's 1972 Volkswagen Beetle.
Eric says Jayme was planning on lowering his bug and made plans to show him how.
Meanwhile, all 11 Smashburger locations in San Diego are collecting donations to help Jayme's family. Donations can be made right at the counter.
