City hires outside law firm to represent former cop

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The City of San Diego will pay $250,000 in taxpayer money for an outside law firm to handle civil lawsuits against a former police officer.

Anthony Arevalos is serving time for demanding sexual favors from women he pulled over while on duty. Several women sued Arevalos and the city. While 10 of those lawsuits have been settled, in two other cases, the city and Arevalos are expected to present evidence against each other, creating a conflict of interest.

The outside law firm will only represent Arevalos, not the city.
