Two-alarm fire damages multi-million dollar home

A two-alarm fire was raging at a multi-million dollar home in Fairbanks Ranch on Thursday night.

FAIRBANKS RANCH (CBS 8) – A two-alarm fire caused considerable amount of damage to a multi-million dollar home in Fairbanks Ranch on Thursday night.

The fire broke out around 9:10 p.m. at a house on the 6700 block of Via Cordoba, in the high-end gated community just east of Rancho Santa Fe.

The home was undergoing renovations and was full of building materials. According to Rancho Santa Fe Fire Battalion Chief Bret Davidson, scaffolding and building materials started to fall as the fire burned, creating a hazard for crews battling the flames.

Fire officials made the call to pull firefighters out of the house and could only approach the fire with a "defensive attack."

Davidson said high winds also fueled the fire and made it difficult to contain. Firefighters worked to contain the blaze to the property and protect neighboring homes.

According to fire officials, the fire started in the basement and parking garage of the home.

No word yet on the cause of the fire. Sheriff's Bomb Arson officials and SDG&E officials were called to the scene to assist with the investigation. No injuries were reported.
