SAN DIEGO (CBS 8 ) - A man is dead after a fire swept through his travel trailer in Pine Valley late Saturday night.

Fast moving flames raced through a trailer home around 9:45 p.m. Saturday, trapping its owner inside the Pine Valley trailer park in the 27000 block of Old Highway 80.

The victim was identified by residents as 82-year-old Gary Space.

The victim's neighbors tried desperately to get to the man, but the intense heat, flames and smoke stopped them in their tracks.

It took Cal Fire firefighters about 15 minutes to knock down the blaze.

Minutes later, they discovered the man's burned body inside the charred remains of his rear bedroom.

As far as what sparked the deadly fire, investigators are still trying to figure that out. The Sheriff's bomb and arson unit is investigating the incident.

Those who knew the victim remember him as a kind man who loved life. They are just sad that they couldn't save him from the raging inferno which killed him.

Neighbors also describe the victim as a nice man, who took the bus on Monday's and Friday's from the park to Downtown San Diego.

His name has not been released by the County Medical Examiner.
