SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A downtown homeless shelter is asking for donations after several days of near-freezing temperatures have depleted their supplies.
The Alpha Project has been handing out hundreds of blankets, jackets, plastic sheets and other cold-weather gear to people living on the streets.
Organizers say plastic sheets and trash bags are often critical for keeping people dry.
"For those people living on the streets, they could easily wake up with frost on their bodies because it's so cold and without the proper gear to keep yourself warm and keep yourself safe, it's freezing outside," says Amy Gonyeau, of the Alpha Project.
Donations can be made 24 hours a day at the Alpha Project.
