Del Mar city council urges fairgrounds to dump gun show

Posted: Updated:

DEL MAR (CBS 8) - The Del Mar city council votes to remove the city's name from an upcoming gun show.

The council is also recommending that the event not be held at the fairgrounds.

The five members voted to adopt a resolution stating their opposition.

Organizers say the event has been held in Del Mar for 22 years and it is regulated by federal state and city law enforcement.

"It's an inappropriate use of a public fair ground as far as we're concerned," says Lee Haydu, Del Mar deputy mayor. "We don't want it to be associated with Del Mar and that's the way our residents feel."

As of now, the gun show is scheduled for March.
