Construction milestone reached at Montgomery Middle School

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The renovation of Montgomery Middle School in Otay Mesa has reached a major milestone.

On Wednesday, a topping out ceremony was held on campus, where the last beam was placed at the top of one of the new buildings.

Construction of the new additions to Montgomery Middle School began last summer, and will give the students some amazing things to look forward to.

"State-of-the-art classrooms that include things like smart boards and the latest technology in the classrooms, a new counseling center, a new cafeteria and a really new quad area for students to enjoy their academic experience," Manuel Rubio of the Sweetwater Union High School District said.

The $19 million construction project was made possible through funds raised by the voter-approved Proposition O.

The new Montgomery Middle School should be completed by this summer.
