SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The Coast Guard rescued two Russian crew members onboard a tanker about 130 miles off our coast.
The two workers were critically injured when a cable split on the ship. The Coast Guard rescue crew says they got the distress call around 8 a.m. Friday and jumped into action.
"We received a call to launch for two injured personnel onboard a tanker vessel. We got on scene, put a rescue swimmer and a litter down," Lt. Joseph Plunkett said.
"They lowered me down along with a litter. After that I assessed both patients," Coast Guard rescue swimmer Jon Kreske said.
The two crewmembers were flown to the Coast Guard base, then taken to UCSD Medical Center. They are said to be in stable condition.
