SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - About 2,000 people attended a breakfast Friday morning to honor civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
The event was hosted by the YMCA of San Diego and held at the Town and Country Resort in Mission Valley.
The Reverend Otis Moss Junior, who worked with King, was the keynote speaker.
Attendees spoke about the need to bring communities together and promote equality for everyone.
"It's important that we live up to those standards of excellence and leadership and making sure that those who don't have, those who don't have a voice, those who don't have the power or privilege that others have, have opportunity," says Aaron Bruce.
More events are scheduled to honor King this weekend, including a parade along North Harbor Drive that kicks off at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
