COMPTON, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies have collected hundreds of guns in a buyback intended to get weapons off the streets.
Nearly 400 guns were handed over Monday in the Compton event, including 22 assault rifles. Deputies handed out supermarket gift cards worth $50 for non-working guns, $100 for handguns and up to $200 for assault weapons.
Last month, the Los Angeles Police Department collected more than 2,000 weapons in a similar buyback, including 75 assault weapons and two rocket launchers.
