SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 23-year-old man was behind bars Thursday on suspicion of robbing three East County ATM users over a five-day period, the sheriff's department reported.
Based on information from a woman who saw a posting about the crimes on the San Diego County Sheriff's Department's Facebook page, detectives arrested George Tommy Adams in the 9600 block of Mission Gorge Road in Santee late Wednesday afternoon.
The tipster reported seeing Adams outside a restaurant, offering repairs on cars, and realizing that he looked like the man captured in robbery-scene surveillance photos she had seen online, according to sheriff's officials. Adams gave his name and number to her, and she passed them on to deputies.
Adams is suspected of robbing two customers at a Mission Federal Credit Union cash machine in the 200 block of Town Center Parkway in Santee, first on Jan. 16 and again Monday.
About 6 1/2 hours after the second holdup, Adams allegedly stole money from a man at a Wells Fargo ATM in the 2300 block of Jamacha Road in the Cottonwood area, near El Cajon.
The bandit displayed a pistol during the first and third crime, according to sheriff's investigators.
Adams was being held in San Diego Central Jail on $400,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon.
