Conference on investigating and treating child abuse
SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A four-day conference on preventing and treating child abuse got underway in San Diego Tuesday.
The San Diego International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment is being held at the Town and Country Resort in Mission Valley.
More than 2,000 professionals from the U.S. and around the world are attending the conference.
The speakers and workshops will focus on how to investigate, diagnose and treat victims of child abuse.
"I think a lot of times people think it's going to happen in other neighborhoods with other children, but really it happens in every community with every socio-economic group, and I think we need to find things to make our children feel safer and help them heal when bad things happen to them," Charles Wilson of the Chadwick Center for Children and Families said.
The conference is sponsored by the Chadwick Center for Children and Families at Rady Children's Hospital.
