Inbound flight to San Diego hit by lightning

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – A JetBlue plane has landed at Lindbergh Field Friday, after it was struck by severe lightning.

The 147-passenger, five-crew member flight was inbound from New York and landed safely.

What happened to Flight 191, according to a Lindbergh Field spokesperson, is a fairly common occurrence nationwide, but somewhat unusual for our area.

There were no reports of injuries or damage to the plane.

The National Weather Service has issued an airport weather warning at Lindbergh Field. A thunderstorm with cloud-to-ground lightning was expected to move over the facility Friday afternoon.

NWS added a chance of thunderstorms was possible at the airport throughout the evening.

Wild weather also damaged biomedical firm Ilumina's roof in Sorrento Valley. A hail storm and high winds tore off a 20- by 30-foot section of skylight paneling from the company's rooftop.

None of the employees were injured, although one person did reportedly suffer an anxiety attack and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
