RIVERSIDE (CBS 8) - The Riverside Police Department buried one of their own Wednesday. Michael Crain was allegedly gunned down by Christopher Dorner last week.

Michael Crain, the 34-year-old officer who was allegedly slain in an ambush by former LAPD officer Dorner, was a former Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton. He served two deployment tours in Kuwait as a rifleman with the Camp Pendleton-based 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, according to the Riverside Police Department.

Crain was honorably discharged and joined the Riverside Police Department in August of 2001. Crain worked for the department for 11 years before he was fatally shot, allegedly by 33-year-old Dorner.

The funeral service for Crain started Wednesday around 10:30 a.m. at the Grove Community Church in Riverside.

According to Lt. Andra Brown from the San Diego Police Department, several officers traveled to the funeral to pay their respects to Crain and flags at San Diego Police headquarters in downtown will remain at half staff.

Michael Crain is being remembered as a hero and a loving husband and father of two.
