EL CAJON (CBS 8) – Two people are in custody Tuesday after a wild police chase, involving a stolen car, ended with a crash in El Cajon. The female driver tried to make a run for it, but was taken down by a K-9 officer.

El Cajon Police first spotted the stolen Honda being driven on Wisconsin Avenue around 5:45 p.m. Monday when a license plate reader device was activated.

Adriana Martinez, 24, and her male passenger, Ernest Molina, 27, initially pulled over, but then quickly took off leading police on a chase, hitting speeds up to 80 miles per hour. They sped through La Mesa and El Cajon, darting on and off the freeway.

Martinez ran a red light at Navajo Road and Fletcher Parkway and collided with two cars, then spun out. The driver of an SUV involved in that wreck says his car only ended up with a minor dent. He was not injured.

After the crash, police say Martinez and Molina tried to get away by running in different directions.

Officers used a K-9 officer to help take Martinez into custody, leaving her with visible injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance for treatment.

Molina was arrested following a short struggle with police.

Martinez was booked into the Las Colinas Detention Facility in Santee late Monday night. Molina was booked into San Diego Central Jail the same night, according to online jail records.
