SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An investigation was under way Tuesday into the discovery of a nearly 500-pound haul of marijuana left alongside Interstate 8 in the East County highlands.
About 11:30 p.m. Monday, U.S. Border Patrol personnel found the cannabis in eight large trash bags abandoned near the federal agency's Pine Valley checkpoint, according to USBP public affairs.
Inside the bags were 134 bundles of marijuana weighing a combined 488 pounds, with an estimated street value of roughly $730,000.
The sheriff's Narcotics Task Force took custody of the drug and the packaging materials for further investigation.
