Transcripts show heroic efforts to save officer's life

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Newly unsealed grand jury transcripts in the death of San Diego police officer Christopher Wilson are revealing the final frantic efforts to save his life.

The veteran officer was shot in October 2010 during a probation sweep of a Skyline apartment. Grand jury testimony shows a rookie female officer risked her own life to pull Wilson out after he was shot in the head.

San Diego police Officer Marisela Hernandez ignored orders to retreat. Even though Officer Wilson was twice her size, she ran into a hallway with bullets flying to drag him out. She testified:

"I actually managed to drag him back about a foot or so. After that, I saw Sergeant Mitchell come in with me, and he told me, 'Take his hand.' I took his right hand, Sergeant Mitchell took his left hand, and we pulled him out."

The gunman who killed Officer Wilson took his own life. Three other defendants are awaiting trial on murder charges.
