Maureen O'Connor was a physical education teacher who won a seat on the San Diego City Council when she was only 25 years old, later winning two terms as the city's first female mayor as she charmed voters with a populist flair.
(CBS 8) - On Friday "CBS This Morning" will air an exclusive interview with former San Diego Mayor Maureen O'Connor about her gambling addiction that cost her millions of dollars.
Last week, it was revealed that O'Connor stole $2 million from her late husband's charitable foundation and them gambled it away. Court documents show she won more than $1 billion between 2000 and 2009, but lost it all, plus another $13 million.
"Like, someone that's on coke, someone that's on heroin. And it was electronic heroin. The more you did the more you needed, and the more it wasn't satisfied," O'Connor said.
You can catch the rest of O'Connor's interview Friday on "CBS This Morning," immediately following News 8 at 6 a.m.
