San Diegans cope with high gas prices

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose four-tenths of a cent Friday to $4.289, matching the smallest increase during a 25-day streak of rising prices.

On Thursday, the average price also rose by only four-tenths of a cent. But even though the recent increases have been small, the price is at its highest level since Oct. 25 and 8.9 cents more than one week ago, 58 cents higher than one month ago and 17.6 cents greater than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price has risen 56.2 cents during the streak of increases, the longest since a 37-day streak from Jan. 26-March 2, 2012.

"Prices have now gone up even more than they did during the spike in October and the one last February, and more quickly than they did during any one-month stretch in 2008, when we had another big spike," Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California said.
