SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The creator of the world's smallest sculptures visited San Diego's Air & Space Museum Monday to present his works.
Willard Wigan's sculpture of Buzz Aldrin is currently on display at the museum. Wigan's works are almost invisible to the naked eye and can fit on the head of a pin.
He does all of his work under a microscope and paints the sculptures using a hair from a fly.
"The microscopic world is a mystery to us and I think sometimes people need to be educated. We seem to underestimate things that are small," Wigan said.
Wigan is completely self-taught. His sculptures generally take months to complete.
