DEL MAR (CBS 8) - A Del Mar shopping center is back open Tuesday morning, after a large-diameter gas leak prompted evacuations.
The gas leak was reported at the Flower Hill Promenade in the 2700 block of Via De La Valle around 7:00 a.m.
Construction crews, working on the new shopping center, ruptured an underground, two-inch natural gas line, causing the leak. Hundreds of people were evacuated until SDG&E crews were able to get the leak under control. Crews were eventually able to pinch off the line, which made it safe for people to return to the stores and open for businesses shortly before 9:00 a.m.
Crews will remain on scene Tuesday until the repair work is completed.
