SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Hundreds of little leaguers help launch the second year of the Padres' Youth Baseball Initiative.

This was the scene at the Clairemont Hilltoppers Little League Opening Day Ceremony.

Players donned authentic jerseys and caps, representing the different eras of Padres baseball.

And it was a perfect day to play ball.

"Love it. It's a thing we plan. We start early. And as you can see here, what better day than to play baseball on a sunny day like this. We're quite blessed," said Coach Steve Connor.

The Swinging Friars and members of the Pad Squad were there for the fun too.
