Marine's scuba death ruled accidental

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The death of a Camp Pendleton Marine while scuba diving on a sunken ship off San Diego has been ruled an accident.

The county medical examiner's office reported Monday that 26-year-old Lance Cpl. Anastasia Jackson drowned after suffering a blunt-force head injury.

U-T San Diego says Jackson was diving with an instructor and three others on the ship off of Mission Beach on Dec. 1 when she began having buoyancy problems.

The paper says the divemaster tried to help but she sank deeper. Her body was found about two hours later, tangled in ropes inside a compartment of the ship.
