New features could make it easier to park in Hillcrest

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The Uptown Parking District and local leaders have announced a new plan that could solve the parking problems in Hillcrest.

Park Hillcrest includes a website and free smartphone app that allows users to search for parking by price, location and free spots. Users can also see a list of local businesses that validate parking and parking structures that accept validation.

"We have great small and locally owned businesses located right here in Hillcrest and they are able to compete with any national retailer, we've just got to give them the parking to do it. And that's what this campaign is about," Councilman Todd Gloria said.

Park Hillcrest also announced a free trolley service that will take visitors from one end of the neighborhood to the other. It will run Thursday through Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
