Teen keeps her cool and busts burglary in progress at her home

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A young man and two teenage boys were behind bars on suspicion of sneaking into a South Bay home and looting it, unaware that a cool-headed 15-year-old resident was all the while foiling the crime by making a 911 call as she hid in a closet.

The girl was alone in her family's house on Avenida Altamira in Chula Vista shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday when she heard a knock at the front door, then saw a stranger opening a window, according to police.

She made a 911 call and, hearing several people entering the residence, proceeded to hide in an upstairs closet while still providing information to an emergency operator, Capt. Gary Wedge said.

"Clearly frightened but remarkably composed, the caller remained on the phone with a dispatcher, providing additional information while the (burglars) were still inside, and while officers were responding," Wedge said.

The three suspects, 18-year-old Robin Sadik of El Cajon and two 17-year-old boys whose names were withheld because they are minors, allegedly were loading property filched from the home into a vehicle parked nearby when patrol personnel arrived minutes later.

After the girl identified the stolen items, the three suspects were arrested. Sadik was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of residential burglary and theft charges, and the underage suspects were locked up in juvenile hall on similar criminal counts.

"The suspects have likely participated in other burglaries in the area, as other stolen property was found in the vehicle," Wedge said. "The vehicle was also determined to (have been) stolen in El Cajon within the previous week."
