POWAY (CBS 8) - The after-school program at Valley Elementary School in Poway has hosted its first "Comic-Con".
Wednesday's event showcased how the students are using comic books to learn.
"You've got them for an hour, reading, when in the past it was like, 'Oh, do I really have to read Ms. Itzy?' Now they're reading and they're excited and we make it very creative," teacher Itziar Haumschilt said.
160 students have been working for months to learn vocabulary, character and integrity through superhero stories.
Wednesday's festival featured an entire room of life-sized superheroes made by the children.
