TSA accused of humiliating Marine in wheelchair

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego Republican Congressman Duncan D. Hunter is demanding answers from the Transportation Security Administration after TSA officers reportedly made a wounded Marine remove his prosthetic legs.

Much of the controversial incident at Phoenix's Sky Harbor Airport was captured by surveillance video.

It shows TSA officers making Toran Gall get out of his wheelchair and walk during a pre-flight security check.

He lost both of his legs during a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan in 2011.

A volunteer escorting the group of Marines through the airport describes what happened to Gall.

"He cannot stand up by himself and I tried to explain that and they don't want to hear it. And then, I said, 'I'm sorry that has to happen to you,' and he just goes' 'You know what? Get me the F outta here," said Marine's Airport Escort Jim Phillips.

Congressman Hunter wrote an angry letter to the TSA about the incident. But the TSA is denying its agents forced Gall to remove his prosthetic legs.
