Cinderella knocks the Aztecs out of the big dance

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The San Diego State Aztecs men's basketball team is scheduled to arrive Monday morning at Lindbergh Field.

The team's hopes for an NCAA title was dashed by a little known team from Florida. The Aztecs were one game away from a trip to the Sweet 16.

But in the second half, a pumpkin turned into a carriage and the Cinderellas from Florida Gulf Coast University went on a 17-point run that sent State packing, and propelled the Eagles in the next round of the NCAA tournament.

The Aztecs end their season with an 81-71 loss.

Florida Gulf Coast makes history as the first 15th seed to make it to the Sweet 16. Up next, they will face 3rd seed Florida.
