San Diego veteran newsman Carl Sisskind dies at 84

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego journalists have lost one of the originals, with the recent death of veteran newsman Carl Sisskind.

Sisskind was Channel 10's news director in the 60s, and editorial director here at KFMB from 1980 until his retirement in 1996. He had his own show called "Close-up with Carl Sisskind."

Carl was a tough, old-school kind of guy. He knew his stuff and whoever he was interviewing better have known their stuff too.

But he had a soft spot for his wife Mary. They were together for 62 years. Carl's death comes just a few months after hers.

They leave behind three children, two granddaughters and a great granddaughter.

Carl was 84.
