Suspected smuggling boat washes up near Sunset Cliffs

Posted: Updated:

POINT LOMA (CBS 8) – At least three people were arrested Wednesday night after a suspected smuggling boat washed up off the coast of Sunset Cliffs in Point Loma.

San Diego Police and San Diego Lifeguards responded to the call of a 20-foot jet ski boat that ran aground just before 10p.m.

The boat was stuck on the reef off the coast, just off shore from the intersection of Sunset Cliffs Blvd. and Froude Street.

Fishermen in the area called authorities and reported seeing several people run off into the dark.

Two men and one woman were arrested for allegedly being on the boat and are suspected of human smuggling.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Homeland Security also responded to the scene.
