Driver slams into 3 parked cars in Midtown

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A hit-and-run driver is still on the run Friday after smashing a number of parked cars in the Midtown area.

The incident happened around 10:45 p.m. Thursday on northbound Columbia Street just south of Palm Avenue.

Police say the suspect's vehicle, a white Dodge Ram pickup, was driving northbound when it collided into a Kia Soul, before totaling the rear of a Nissan Maxima, and finally hitting a Chevy Lumina.

After the collision, witnesses spotted the driver, described as a small white male, running away from the scene.

Owners of those cars could not believe the damage that was done and were very upset. Some residents say they even tried running after the suspect.

"I've lived here a year and this has happened at least twice, so it wasn't as bad the last time, somebody scrapped all the cars and they ran," said resident Michael Keating.

The suspect's truck has Texas plates, and Department of Defense stickers.

Tow trucks were called in to clean up the mess. Total damages are still being estimated.
