Teenage girl fights off attempted kidnappers in Spring Valley

A man made a forcible but failed attempt to kidnap a 17-year-old girl in a Spring Valley residential neighborhood on Thursday, fleeing along with a cohort after she managed to break free and escape.

SPRING VALLEY (CNS) - Authorities were on the lookout Friday for a man who made a forcible but failed attempt to kidnap a 17-year-old girl in Spring Valley.

The victim was walking near the intersection of Kenwood Drive and Campo Road in Spring Valley when the would-be abductor and another man drove up alongside her in a burgundy older-model sedan about 10:45 a.m. Thursday, according to a San Diego County Sheriff's Department statement.

The girl told investigators that one of the occupants called out, "Hey beautiful, need a ride?" After she declined the offer, the passenger got out, grabbed her and tried to pull her toward the vehicle, but she fought him off and ran away, the statement said. The assailant got back in the car, which went off to the west.

The victim, who suffered minor injuries in the struggle, described the man who grabbed her as black, stocky, in his 40s, about 5 feet 8, with short hair and acne scars. He was unshaven and wearing black nylon sweat pants, a black shirt and a dark denim jacket, the sheriff's department reported. The driver was also a black man, but no further description was immediately available, it said.
