SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A Mira Mesa woman and her adult daughter died in a hospital from injuries they suffered in an early-morning house fire allegedly set on purpose by a member of their family, authorities reported.

Bouakham Sphabmixay, 69, and 48-year-old Pamela Sphabmixay were taken off life support Friday around 4 p.m., according to San Diego police.

Flames began spreading through the second floor of the women's two-story house in the 11200 block of Featherhill Lane about 1:30 a.m. Thursday. After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters found the victims unconscious in separate rooms, SDPD homicide Lt. Jorge Duran said.

Shortly after the fire erupted, witnesses saw a live-in relative of the victims, 44-year-old Thongsavanh Sphabmixay, leaving the area. When he returned a short time later, officers detained him.

After being questioned, the suspect was arrested and booked into San Diego Central Jail without bail. In light of the women's deaths, he will be charged with two counts of murder in addition to arson charges, according to Duran.

Duran declined to specify how the suspect was related to the victims. Neighbors told reporters he was a son of Bouakham Sphabmixay and a brother of Pamela Sphabmixay.
