Legislation calls for extending "last call'

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - On the road with more drunk drivers – that's one fear being expressed over a move to extend bars hours.

The proposed legislation would extend "last call" from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. across California. The proposal originated with State Senator Mark Leno who says a later last call would increase tourism and boost sales. It would also make the state more competitive with other hotspots around the country, such as New York, Las Vegas and Miami.

However, this proposal isn't sitting well with people who say it would cause people to drink longer, resulting in more problems.

Some residents and bar managers in Pacific Beach also believe it would increase traffic and police presence and really wouldn't boost tourism.
