SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 70-year-old man fatally struck by a pickup truck while trying to cross University Avenue in City Heights was identified Wednesday.
William James Powell of San Diego died at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest several hours after being struck in the 3600 block of University Avenue about 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to police and the county Medical Examiner's Office.
Powell suffered a broken pelvis and bleeding in the brain, police Officer Dino Delimitros said.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An investigation was underway Wednesday into a traffic accident in which a 70-year-old wheelchair-bound man was fatally struck by a pickup in the City Heights area of San Diego, police said.
The man was struck while attempting to cross University Avenue at 36th Street around 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.
He suffered a broken pelvis and bleeding in the brain and died in a hospital a few hours later, he said in a statement.
No other injuries were reported. The driver of the pickup, a 46-year-old man, remained at the scene.
