Mountain lion captured in LA-area neighborhood

GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) — A large mountain lion found wandering through backyards in the Glendale area has been tranquilized and captured.

Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz tells the Los Angeles Times that the big cat was spotted in a La Crescenta neighborhood shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday.

KABC-TV news cameras showed it scaling up and over roofs and backyard fences.

Nearly two hours after it was first spotted, California Department of Fish and Wildlife officers tranquilized the mountain lion, and planned to release it back in its habitat.

KABC showed about a half-dozen officers carrying the animal estimated to weigh between 120 and 140 pounds into a truck.
