SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A multiple-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 8 Sunday sent two people to a hospital and snarled traffic through Mission Valley, authorities said.

The crash was reported shortly before 4:30 p.m. on the freeway near Mission Center Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. It involved several vehicles, including a white Ford Explorer that ended up overturned in the left westbound lane, the CHP reported.

Two people were taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher said.

According to the CHP, only minor injuries were sustained.

The crash temporarily blocked the three left westbound lanes. The CHP issued a traffic advisory shortly after the crash stating vehicles were backed up on the freeway to the Interstate 805 off-ramp.

All lanes were open at 5:12 p.m., the CHP reported.
