Three injured after crashes down embankment in Midway

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A car crashed off Interstate 5 in the Midway area Tuesday, then careened down an embankment and overturned, leaving three people injured and trapped in the wreckage.

The southbound vehicle veered off the freeway for unknown reasons about 4:20 p.m. and came to rest upside-down alongside a chain-link fence at the bottom of the slope, near the intersection of Gaines and Jefferson streets, according to the California Highway Patrol and San Diego police.

Crews had to cut the victims out of the crumpled auto before medics took them to hospitals. They were believed to have suffered serious injuries, CHP public-affairs Officer Robert Catano said.
