SDPD teams up wtih virtual neighborhood watch program
SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Starting Wednesday, users of a popular neighborhood-level social networking website will have access to crime alerts and public-safety tips posted by the San Diego Police Department.
Locals with a Nextdoor.com account can view the law enforcement messages on a police page updated by personnel in each of the SDPD's nine geographic divisions, and have the ability to post public or private replies.
The service provides residents with an additional tool for protecting themselves and their families through awareness of local crime trends and current prevention strategies, police officials said.
Users of Nextdoor.com must have verified residency to visit the company's password-protected online pages, which are not accessible by search engines, according to the operators of the website.
