Sentence handed down in Spring Valley murder trial

Posted: Updated:

EL CAJON (CNS) - A man who fatally shot another man after an argument and physical altercation in Spring Valley last year was sentenced Friday to 81 years to life in prison.

Arren William Dangler, 29, pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree murder in the death last June 15 of Brian Keith Hammett, who was also 29. The victim's body was found in a driveway the 8700 block of Troy Street.

Dangler pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to unrelated robbery, auto theft and other charges stemming from a home-invasion robbery last May 30 in which a victim was robbed of cash and a BMW by two men who answered a craigslist ad for a computer.

The defendant was also convicted of assault and battery for attacking a fellow inmate after his arrest.
